Bacon comes from the center of the pig’s back. We all agree on that but if we talk about Canadian bacon it can be referred to as the circles of meat and it comes from lion cut. It is also called Irish bacon, rashers, or back bacon.

Canadian bacon has a meatier cut than ham but they are quite the same in preparation. But, keep in mind that they are not usually smoked and are pre-cooked before serving. It is best served on eggs benedict. Also, Canadian bacon is served for breakfast and brunch.

Ham comes from the rum, leg, or thigh of the pig. It is mostly available in salted or smoked flavor. You can cook it in different ways with hams including the whole leg or a bone or you can slice it into pieces.

Some hams are cooked and cured while others are uncured and raw. They mostly come whole except the foot of the pig. Moreover, it served as a continental breakfast in hotels or you can eat it any time of the day.

At first sight, Canadian bacon and hams feel similar because of the taste and texture. Even some people might not feel the difference because Canadian bacon tastes like ham. Instead, the two types of meat are quite different.

The most common difference is that both ham and Canadian bacon comes from different parts of pig meat. The Canadian bacon is from loin while ham is from thighs or legs. Also, the Canadian bacon is sliced while on the other hand ham is gotten in slices or diced chunks.

Mostly there is the only type of Canadian bacon but there are different types of ham. It ranges from all American ham to the Chinese Jinhua ham.

The Canadian bacon is mostly prepared at home where the meat is smoked, cured, and fully cooked. While the ham goes through the industrial process of salting, curing, smoking, and cutting.

Along with that, ham contains sugar or honey to make any of the ham recipes while Canadian bacon has fewer calories. It is quite low in cholesterol and carbohydrates as compared to ham. But, still, it is rich with proteins. Unlike Canadian bacon, ham has more sodium, calcium, and vitamin C extracts.

The other difference between Canadian bacon and ham is the number of nutrients. Canadian bacon contains 20 calories, 0.3 grams of carbohydrates, 0.4 grams of fats, and 3.9 grams of protein in a 14 grams slice. The ham is typically served as 56 grams and it has 100 calories, 1 gram of carbohydrates, 14 grams of protein, and 5 grams of fats.

Canadian bacon is the juicy meat that suits best for brunch and breakfast. It is quite different (small and round) than the steaky and traditional bacon. While ham is a popular continental breakfast in hotels, in the form of sandwiches, baguettes, ham eggs and chips. It is also larger as compared to bacon.
